Libya is aiming to generate 20% of its power from renewable sources by 2020, according to Reuters.
In line with this target, citing Libya’s electricity minister, Reuters reported that the Libyan government is close to issuing tenders for two solar power plants.
The minister also revealed that the country is planning to establish an electricity regulatory authority by the end of 2013.
This move follows several other African nations which have also recently pledged to source more of its electricity from renewable sources. Among such countries is Algeria which is targeting 40% of its power generation from renewable sources by 2030.
