Tata Power to Generate 30-50MW of Solar Power Annual

Indian electricity utility Tata Power has proposed plans to generate 20-25% from clean energy sources including 30-50MW of solar power every year.

The company claims to now have a total operational capacity of solar of more than 28MW. This includes the 25MW Mithapur Project which is registered under the Clean Development Mechanism programme of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Gujarat, 3MW at Mulshi, Maharashtra, and some rooftop solar installations.

Tata Power’s Mithapur project has been developed through its subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy that signed a power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam. The project is said to help in reducing an annual average of 37,696 tons of CO2, by producing 39,597MWh per year (average) equivalent amount of clean energy. The company is also developing a 28.8MW solar plant near Satara in Maharashtra.

Speaking on Tata Power's commitment to clean and green energy, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power said, “Our solar and wind energy assets are performing well and we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint through “clean and renewable energy” generation. Our aim is to have 20-25% of our generation portfolio from clean energy."

Tata Power’s total investment in solar and wind energy so far is Rs. 2393 crore.
