Xiangjiaba Hydropower Plant, China’s third-largest hydropower plant by designed installed capacity, will put a third 800-megawatt (MW) rated turbine into operation by the end of year, according to China Three Gorges Corp. (CTGC).
The plant is designed to house eight 800-MW turbines, the first two of which came on-line in late October and generated 500 gigawatt hours of power by the end of November. CTGC, the facility’s operator, claims the turbines are the largest by nameplate capacity in the world.
